Walking the Ilica Beach Waterfront
A sleep-in day for Sarah before we went out for a morning walk at 9:30 am. To get a feel for the local area, we went directly to the seafront avenue, then turned left, sticking to the shoreline as much as we could.
The water here is beautiful and clear, very similar to the Greek Islands. We weren’t heading in the right direction to see the main Ilica Beach, but we did come across a few small sandy bays tucked between the concrete built-up areas. Most were occupied by restaurants and fishing spots, though there were very few people in the restaurants. We’re here after the busy summer season, and mornings are usually quiet anyway. A few people were out fishing.
We passed a small marina and then walked out onto a breakwater where a hot water spring emerges into the sea. It’s a popular spot for swimming and soaking, as the water temperature can reach around 45 °C.
We kept following the coast with no particular finish point in mind and eventually reached a water park (closed for the season) next to a very large hotel. That seemed like a good point to turn back. On the return, we stuck to the road to see if we could find a bakery, but didn’t come across one until we were back in the Ilica Beach town area.
We bought a sliced loaf and a couple of sweet biscuits—lunch and morning tea sorted. A 7km walk to earn the biscuit treat. Haha, when do I need to walk to earn biscuits?!
Not much else to report today. We had the fresh bread for lunch with eggs, lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes. The afternoon was spent reading and relaxing. We have nice balcony above the pool which is a good place to sit.
Dinner was French fried toast for me with leftover spaghetti bolognese, while Sarah had eggs on toast.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention the hot water issue. The apartment manager has been a bit useless in terms of service. We had to call him because we had no hot water. He came, checked things, and then ran the shower. It took nearly 10 minutes before any hot water came through, and there still appears to be none in the kitchen. What!? We boiled water to do the dishes, and he said he’ll look into it further tomorrow.
