Boyalik Beach Walk
The rain was gone and the sun was back this morning. 👍 We grabbed a Dolmuş to Boyalık Beach with the idea of walking back from there. Boyalık is said to be one of the nicest beaches along this stretch of coast.
There are certainly some fancy and expensive-looking hotels around, and the beach itself is what we might describe as typically Turkish based on what we’ve seen so far — beautiful clear water, but the sand is littered with cigarette butts and a fair bit of plastic rubbish. If only they could take better care of the environment, it would surely attract even more visitors. Then again, maybe they flock in here anyway.
It’s super quiet at this time of year — we probably saw no more than a dozen people along the whole stretch of beach. We walked its full length, right to the point where the land juts out from the Çeşme peninsula. Ilica Beach sits on the other side of this headland.
From there, we headed onto the streets and followed the access road to a large resort we’d noticed earlier from Ilica — a huge white complex that turned out to front a big marina filled with expensive boats.
We made our way back to the apartment along the same roads as our first morning’s walk — about 6km in total.
After lunch, it was time for a typically relaxed afternoon. I watched the All Blacks take on Australia in rugby and caught the F1 Singapore qualifying session too.
For dinner, Sarah found a great little spot just 100 metres away — it had good reviews and was excellent value. It was run by a friendly German man who spoke pretty good English. We had meat paça soup that had been slow-cooked for 24 hours and was absolutely delicious. We’d planned to follow it with a chicken kebab, but we were far too full by then. The soup was accompanied by small green chilies. I tried one and it almost blew my head off. 😂
