Rainy Day and Ilica Beach Walk

The forecast rain arrived at breakfast time, accompanied by a few claps of thunder. The rain was heavy for a very short time, but while we were chatting to Emma on WhatsApp it started to clear, and soon there were glimpses of blue sky and sunshine.

After our chat, we thought it best to get in a walk while we could. We started with a browse around the supermarket and the local pharmacy, looking for mosquito repellent and fly spray. Too many sneaky bites the last couple of nights — it was time to defend ourselves. Once we’d checked the options, we continued our walk from town, heading along to the main part of Ilica Beach.
This part of the beach is very sandy and quite long, perhaps 2 km in total. The water is crystal clear, but the beach itself needs some TLC — too many spots with rubbish and plastic discarded carelessly. It would be a beautiful beach if people looked after it better.

We walked in the sand for about 400 metres and then went up to a nice concrete promenade that ran the full length of the rest of the beach. I’m guessing it was another 1.5 km or so, and when we reached the end where the walkway and beach stopped, we turned around and headed back.

A supermarket stop for milk, water, lunch bread, and the mosquito solution — or so we hope. We went for a plug-in cartridge repellent that we can put beside our bed, and a can of fly spray. One we’ll be able to take with us on the plane, and the other we won’t.

Back at the apartment, I used the fly spray to fumigate the rooms one at a time. Hopefully, we killed the mozzies we couldn’t see, and we’ll now be able to deal with any that are still flying about.

After lunch, I did some video editing while Sarah had a sleep. Around 5 pm, when we were thinking of going back to the supermarket for food, the rain and thunder came back with a bit more ferocity. The skies outside our window were still bright, but it rained quite hard with a couple of loud thunderclaps. Perhaps we’ll wait a bit before going shopping. 🤔

The rain didn’t last long, and we managed to get down to the supermarket without getting wet. Neither of us felt like cooking and we’re a bit tired of figuring out what to make with limited ingredients while travelling. We decided we might just have dessert tonight — ice cream or something similar. After browsing the shelves, we settled on a slightly odd combination: macaroni cheese from a packet, nacho chips, and ice cream. 😮

The macaroni cheese looked like it might be awful but was actually pretty good. That was followed by some chips and then Neapolitan-flavoured ice cream, which was very nice. 👍
