Singapore - Gardens by the Bay
Gosh I wish I had turned my Strava tracker on. We must have walked quite a few kilometres on this excursion. First we went down to check out where the Raffles Hotel is and then we headed towards the Helix bridge. We ended up on another bridge above that but got to it eventually. It takes you to the Marina Sands Mall and the Marina Sands Hotel. That's the one with the fancy viewing platform on the top shaped like a boat. It featured on an Amazing Race or Race Across the World or both.

From there we could access the Gardens by the Bay although I seem to insist on calling them Gardens of the World. They are huge and really neat to wander through and around. Lots of different themes involved such as Chinese, Forest, Mushrooms, Kingfisher, Meadows, etc. One lily pad themed pond had fish in it and we stopped a turtle that surfaced. It looked like Daisy the turtle Jacqui had as a pet. We stopped at a place called Shake Shack for dinner. Two small burgers, the only size they come in, and two drinks set us back $32 SGD or $42 NZD. Ouch.
We walked about a bit more and then sat and waited for the light show that started at 7.45pm. We opted not to pay for any of the entry fee attractions and just enjoyed the free offerings. The crowds were gathering under the giant Super Trees from just after 7pm. I'm glad we have our deet on as the woman next to us is getting eaten alive. She's Asian so should know to prepare for these things.
The Light Show under the Super Trees was brilliant. The lights played along to a good selection of common opera songs that we had heard before and recognised even if we could not name any. They also included the Imperial March music familiar from Star Wars so we could name that. After the show finished we made our way to the nearest MRT station and took the circle line one stop, changed trains up one level and narrowly avoided getting on the wrong one. That can happen when you run to a train that's just pulling up at the right platform but this platform somehow services two different lines. We found a 7-Eleven to buy some sunscreen and a beer. One of which was terribly expensive. 😉 We are not sure what we will do tomorrow. We will need to figure that out in the morning.
