Kanchanaburi - Rest Day!!!

I was keen to see the train crossing the bridge so popped down there just before 7am to watch it travel across. Unfortunately I hadn't realised that the GoPro wasn't recording at the time. ☹️ I headed back for breakfast with Sarah who was now up.

After breakfast we headed back to the bridge again so Sarah could browse the market stalls. They have a lot of bracelets, clothes, all sorts of things. Plenty of the food stalls were now open and smelt really good. We were going to walk across to the other side of the bridge but it was closed at half way as they are replacing some of the sleepers. A couple of people ignored the closed sign and walked through anyway. We had no urgent need to cross so decided not to get in the way of the workers.

Shopping finished it's time for a coffee back at the hotel and some book reading. My Rhys Dylan book is nearing the end and getting very good. It was a good book, now finished and I'm starting a Lee Child one that I may have already read. I'll try a few chapters to see if that's the case.

At 2pm we went back to the bridge so we could both see a train go across it and I could this time record it. We also got to walk to the far side as the workmen had finished for the day. While waiting we met a man from Strasbourg France who we chatted to for a few minutes. He had said bonjour and and I had replied in French asking how he was. He then replied with more than tre bien and at that point the game was up and we reverted to English. 😂 He's here for a week and is also visiting Vietnam.

The train turned up just a few minutes late and we watched it go slowly across while waving at those onboard. Next stop for us was the 7 Eleven for snacks and drinks as we had not had lunch. The walk back to the hotel was pretty warm as it's 35 degrees today and Google says it feels like 38. We agree. But if this officially feels like 38 then the other day at Hellfire Pass was 40!

Dinner was back at the close to hotel restaurant. Their food had been so nice we had to finish our stay there. We had thought about going to the bridge and a restaurant overlooking the river but stuck with the "tried and tasted". Tonight we had the Penang curry again, chicken fried rice, and stir fried veggies. Sarah is having a pineapple smoothie and I'm having a coke zero. Total cost 440 Bhat or around $23. Tomorrow we have another early start and a big moving day. Wish us luck.
