Agia Anna and Local Beach Time

A quiet and wonderful day today. Like so many days on this trip, we started with a walk—this time to the next closest village, Agia Anna, about 2 km away.

Agia Anna is slightly more built-up than Agios Prokopios, but not by much. There are more apartments close together, sitting immediately behind the beachfront restaurants. In contrast, Prokopios mainly has restaurants and shops at the beach front, with apartments scattered around the town. There are very nice-looking places right across the road from the beach.at Agia Anna, but we’re still happy with where we chose to stay.

At the end of Anna Beach, there is a headland with a little church perched on it—a beautiful spot. The rocks and sand at the headland reminded us a lot of Abel Tasman National Park, with gritty sandstone sand and interestingly shaped rocks.

We continued past the headland, and the paved road turned into more of a dirt-and-sand track. It was rough in places but still the main road; we passed a few bus stops and even saw a bus. Oh, and there was also a clothes-optional section along the beach. I won’t describe too much… okay, fine, 😂 we only saw old men’s bottoms, and that was gross enough. 😱

Eventually, we decided we had walked far enough and retraced our steps back to the apartment—just over 6 km in total.

By now, we were plenty warm enough to reward ourselves with a swim at the beach. Today there’s just a gentle breeze and no wind. It’s hotter than yesterday as a result of no wind, but the calm sea looks even more amazing without the ripples. We spent a long time just relaxing and floating, then returned for a dip in the pool.

Lunch and more pool swims followed in the afternoon. Later, we walked back down to the beach for another swim. There were more people along the beach in the afternoon, but not too many where we accessed it.

We spent an hour or two frustratingly trying to figure out our next accommodation and ferry options. It looks like we’ll have a middle-of-the-night arrival at one place and will need to find accommodation with good after hours access. We planned to book a hotel with a 24-hour reception since there’s no other ferry option. Both of us were a bit grumpy with that and with each other—miscommunication—but we’ll get it sorted tomorrow.🤞

It has been a wonderful day, and we are starting to love Naxos! It's exactly how you might imagine the Greek islands to be.

Pork chops and salad for dinner—lovely, juicy pork expertly cooked by Sarah.
