A Rest Day in Split
Nothing much on the agenda today—let’s call it a “rest” day. You definitely need those on this sort of trip.
That said, we still started the day with a 45-minute walk down to and along the beach promenade. We walked until the beaches gave way to the marina. It was already 29°C by 7:45 am.
After that, we had a swim and then sat outside under the shaded pergola to read our books. Morning coffee was followed by lunch, and then more reading and/or watching some TV. I also did a bit of video editing in the afternoon before we headed out for a walk to the supermarket.
We were after a piece of steak because the "sausages" we bought yesterday weren’t actually sausages—they were mince shaped like sausages. Some weird foreign thing? Anyway, we picked up what we hope is a nice piece of steak to go with the mince sausages. Sarah also needed to visit the pharmacy to get some swimmer’s ear spray.
It was 36°C on the walk up to the shops. Sarah’s strategy was to walk quickly and get into the shade as soon as possible. I wasn’t totally convinced, but I managed to keep up. The was very little shade. It was damn hot out there! 🔥🔥🔥 But we survived, so all good.
Dinner was the aforementioned steak and “sausages,” along with cherry tomatoes, capsicum, broccoli, and new potatoes. Sarah had a cider and I had apple juice—a very nice meal to end our stay here. The steak was a bit tough but the mince sausages were really nice. We think they had some flavouring added to them.
Split has been wonderful—or more accurately, this apartment, pool, and beach have been wonderful. Just what we needed to break up the recent and upcoming travel days. We've been moving a bit faster since leaving Budapest, but we intend to slow down again in about a week’s time. The next five or six days will be busy, so it was great to have a couple of days to chill out here in Split.
Time to pack the bags again and get ready to move. Where might we be going tomorrow? Any guesses?
Hehehe YOU had to keep up with Sarah......love it ! Gillian
