Relaxing in Corfu and Planning Ahead
Another sunrise for me and a nice sleep-in for Sarah. I sat on the balcony eating breakfast and watching it come up. Beautiful.
We spent the morning swimming in the pool and reading books while lying in the shade on the lounge chairs. We'll likely do the same again tomorrow, assuming the weather is the same.
After lunch, we focused on firming up plans for the next four weeks. We're not booking the apartments just yet, but we're shortlisting the likely candidates and figuring out the route to take.
Just before 4 p.m., we needed to head into Benitses, as we needed more water and wanted to have a bit more of a look around. The bus was running late, so we stood and waited beside the road for 25 minutes longer than expected. It was a hot wait. π₯΅
We wandered through the Benitses old village area, which was just a couple of streets with older houses, a church, and a few alleyways. We also went to see the Roman Baths, but there wasn’t much to see—just old ruins that could have been baths or simply dilapidated old houses.
We headed back to a small supermarket to get the bottled water. Google says you can drink the tap water in Corfu, but the apartment host said to use it only for washing. Hence, we’re buying it. Let’s hope New Zealand never gets to this stage of evolution. ☹️
Water and bread purchased, we headed to the bar where we had a drink the other night, as the woman there was so nice. I'm carrying 6 x 1.5L bottles of water and it's hot. π₯΅ The bar is closed on Mondays! Bugger. We'll go home for a beer, then.
We can see the bus has just pulled up at the stop behind us. We’re right in the middle of the two stops and can’t make it to either in time. The buses here don’t pick up mid-stop. So we find another bar—sorry, taverna, as I should be calling them in Greece. It’s right on the beach and painted blue. A beer each and a view of the beach—hard to beat as an option for bus waiting.
The buses are still running late, so it’s after 6:30 p.m. when we get back. Time to cook dinner—tonight it’s pork steaks, capsicum, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and fresh bread. Very yummy. So yummy I forgot the usual photo op. Never mind. π
Meals have upgraded from the first Europe travels.π₯ππ
ReplyDeleteYes thankfully no longer cooking on a gas hiking stove with limited pots. π
DeleteLol, yea I can imagine the beer stop was way more preferable to a mad dash to the boys stopπ
