Mooching in Mostar
My day started with a 5:45 am walk while Sarah enjoyed a sleep-in. I wanted to walk up the nearby hill to get a view over the city. It was a bit of a failure, thanks to Google Maps trying to take me onto streets that didn’t exist.
The way up was initially on streets. To call them steep would be an understatement. They got me to the town boundary, and then it turned into a skinny gravel track. I went a little further up the track but had visions of it being a dead end—or worse, leading to a landmine. That would not be a good thing. ☹️ So I stopped, took a couple of photos and some video, and then retraced my steps. I should have done my own navigation. I was tempted to try again, but after losing some altitude to get near a better road, I decided against it. At least it wasn’t too hot—only about 24 degrees, as the sun wasn’t fully up yet.
Back to the apartment for a coffee and breakfast, followed by some reading. Later in the morning, we headed out to the big mall, as Sarah wanted to look for some new shorts. There was a cheap Kmart-like store on the top (5th) floor. She came up empty-handed. While we were there, though, we grabbed something for lunch and dinner from the supermarket downstairs.
The rest of the day we stayed in the air-conditioning—reading and booking some accommodation for after our next stop. Not sure if I mentioned it, but the place we’re staying in here has been okay, but not brilliant. It has two bedrooms, which is good, but the kitchen and bathroom are small and not easy to use. There’s a kitchen table with four chairs, but nowhere else to sit other than on your bed. Given it’s only costing $82 per night, we still feel it was a good find, and the location has been very convenient.
Sarah had found a place where you can swim in the river not too far away, so at 5 pm we went to check it out. It’s 36 degrees outside, so a swim in a cold river sounded tempting. But once there, we decided against it. It looked quite slippery to get in, and we’re too old to jump off the rocks or climb down the ladder. 😉 Or perhaps just too sensible. The metal ladder was probably 100 degrees and untouchable. I didn’t try.
Dinner tonight was sausages—real ones, not fake mince ones—potatoes, tomatoes, and salad. A bit of TV watching rounded out the relaxed day.
You guys are having a great life style, may be hard to give it up!
ReplyDeleteWondering if when you finally return (if?) you will continue recording your meals 😁
Guess you have been told to enjoy that heat, weather here's 2nd hand
Great narrative and photos, just like being there
Stay safe
Cheers Pete. Yes could get used to this way of life. Not sure we can afford it longer term but perhaps in short doses? Recording meals guess way back for my Blogs. Just something to do. 😂 Hunting and gathering at the supermarket is not so easy in foreign lands which leads to them being recorded but not always photographed.
