Bellevue Beach Dubrovnik
A slightly later start today. Breakfast done and out the door by 7:40 am. A 1.5 km walk to Bellevue Beach. It’s 25 degrees—quite pleasant—and the route is initially similar to yesterday.
Bellevue Beach is a few bays away from Dubrovnik Old Town. The city and its walls aren’t visible from the beach due to the headlands in between. As far as city beaches go, this one is beautiful. FYI on the map below our apartment is roughly between Gruz and the beach.
We descended a steep set of concrete steps from the hotels perched on the cliff above. The view of the clear water was stunning. It’s a stony, not sandy, beach—so walking barefoot with our soft office feet was tough going, but worth the pain. There were hardly any people there, probably because it was just after 8 am and still early. Yet it was already warm enough for us to end up swimming for well over an hour and a half.
There’s also a small cave at the side of the cliff which we explored inside—very cool. We spent almost three hours at the beach, sitting in the shade for some of the time as well as in the sun, and enjoying the water. We kept asking ourselves: did we ever picture doing this in the past? Probably not. We certainly imagined swimming in lovely, clear water if we ever visited the Greek islands. But to have enjoyed the coastal areas of Europe twice already on this trip feels like a special bonus.
The walk back up and then to the apartment wasn’t too bad either. The heat was more manageable after the cooling effects of our swim. A great morning excursion before retreating to our couch for coffee, reading, TV, etc.
Later in the afternoon, we popped down the hill to the Tommy Hipermarket for a few things and dinner. We were going to buy their cooked chicken pieces but they were all out. So instead we got flavoured pork steaks and a quinoa vege salad. We also added our remaining lettuce and tomato. A very yummy combo.
After dinner I needed to go get cash from an ATM because the next accommodation only accepts cash. ☹️ We need to keep an eye on the Booking.com payment terms because getting cash out it's bloody expensive! A €4.75 fee charged by the bank and another €3.92 charged by the Wise card! $16.50 to take out NZD $800! 😡
It’s moving day tomorrow—another bus and a new country await. Stay tuned...
Hello hello to you Interpid Travellers, you are certainly seeing the sights of many countries. Very sensible to begin your days early, avoiding the high temperatures. What we are getting told here that it's BLOODY HOT temps certainly read very high. I'm impressed with the meals you are dining on.The school holidays are on here at present. We are enjoying having Isabelle and Abigail for a few days.Paul and I have begun playing Croquet, have only been twice, but at this early stage are enjoying it. Early starts, my Mahjong friend collects us at 8.am. Games finish about midday. Continue to enjoy yourselves, stay well and safe. Love to you both. Suzanne and Paul xxxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Suzanne and Paul. Things are going well here. We are working around the heat as best we can. Still not sure what we will do when the August temperatures arrive. We will need to figure out a plan. Croquet is a great idea. I've only played it once but it was quite fun. Have you tried lawn bowls? I think both are good. Love, Aaron (and Sarah of course!)
