London Day 4 - Chores and Chilling

I normally avoid drugs like the plague, but sometimes they just make sense—so I took a sleeping pill last night. I woke at 4 a.m. but soon fell back asleep until just before 6 a.m., which was great. Hopefully, that was enough to reset the body clock. I’ll find out tonight.

After a long trip and a few busy days, it was good to just chill out and not do much today. We washed our grubby clothes in the machine under the kitchen bench. No, not the dishwasher! Their washing machines are under the kitchen bench here in England.

While we waited for the wash to cycle through, Sarah was busy downloading more e-books while I edited a video. We hung the washing on a clothes rack outside to dry—there was no sign of a clothesline or a dryer.

We then went for a walk to explore the local area a bit more, including Pitshanger Park. It was very large and well used on a sunny Sunday—people walking dogs, playing golf and tennis, or just out walking like we were. It was interesting to see a large garden allotment area in the middle of the park—a place where residents can grow and maintain vegetables. It appeared to be quite a popular thing to do.
Halfway through the walk, and just as I was starting to feel a bit hungry, some young local girls were selling chocolate cake. £1.50 per slice, so we bought one piece each. It was moist and very yummy.
We stopped in Pitshanger Lane at the Co-op on the way back to grab some lunch supplies—bread, ham, and cheese to make toasted sandwiches. £6.90 for those items and a packet of Digestives. (Someone has already eaten the first packet!)

The afternoon was spent chilling out—reading, watching TV (including Only Fools and Horses), and doing some more video editing.

We walked down to a Marks & Spencer supermarket in Ealing Broadway to get something for dinner: sausages, potatoes, and mixed vegetables, plus a baguette and some butter. £14.15, or around $32 NZD.

  1. You have had a good mix of Central London tourist and sort of local which is fun in a different way. I am also struggling with time zones although a smaller and more gradual change.
